SAP BusinessObjects BI (also known as BO or BOBJ) is a suite of front-end applications that allow business users to view, sort and analyze business intelligence data. The suite includes the following key applications:
Enables users to design and generate reports.
Allows users to create interactive dashboards that contain charts and graphs for visualizing data.
Provides a self-service environment for creating ad hoc queries and analysis of data both online and offline.
Allows users to search through BI data sources using an iTunes-like interface. Users do not have to create queries to search the data and results are shown with a chart that indicates the best information match.
Business Information Warehouse (sometimes shortened to "Business Warehouse" or BW) is a packaged, comprehensive business intelligence product centered around a data warehouse that is optimized for (but not limited to) the R/3 environment from SAP.
Like most data warehouses, BW is a combination of databases and database management tools that are used to support management decision making. BW supplies the infrastructure typical of data warehouses, but also includes preconfigured data extractors, analysis and report tools, and business process models. Among the other features of BW are: Business Application Programming Interfaces (BAPIs) that enable connections to non-R/3 applications; preconfigured business content; an integrated OLAP processor; automated data extraction and loading routines; a metadata repository; administrative tools; multiple language support; and Business Explorer, a Web-based user interface. SAP Business Warehouse is an integral component of the company's mySAP Business Intelligence group of products.
In the SAP Business Information Warehouse (BW), BEx (Business Explorer) is the reporting tool used to work with data in the BW database. BEx has a Web-based user interface and is made up of two components, the BEx browser and the BEx analyzer.
The BEx browser provides an organized interface where a user can access and work with any type of document assigned to them in the Business Information Warehouse, such as workbooks, links, and BW Web reports. The BW database itself is segmented into discrete data areas called InfoCubes that are made up of data and associated metadata. The BEx analyzer allows the user to examine segmented data in a variety of useful combinations, for example when comparing financial data for different fiscal years.
SAP Data Services is a data integration and transformation software application. It allows users to develop and execute workflows that take data from predefined sources called data stores (applications, Web services, flat-files, databases, etc.) and then allows the user to combine, transform, and refine that data, and then output the results back to the same or different data stores.
